Dystopia One

live at The Continental, March 30, 1998

Dystopia is a big word meaning a screwed-up place (like the opposite of utopia, get it?). The band Dystopia One is probably most famous for two things: shameless self-promotion and the Steve Buscemi song. Late in March, they unveiled their new set-up--no more keyboards! It's very exciting. This gives the band a lot more energy. Hey, the keyboard is so old it's already gone through its nostalgia phase, so I don't blame them for giving them up. Now, Dystopia One sounds more punk rock than ever.

This night, their set consisted mostly of material from their new ep, $$$$, which you can read about on my reviews page (hit the back button!), and which kicks ass. They started off with Uni-Brow, their ode to hairy guys ,and also treated us to their version of Panic which sounds great live, very animated and would probably have Morrissey turning over in his grave, were he dead. I love the AOL song too (America Offline), I can relate, and it's a fun song, very noisy and loud.

I'm tired and I'm not doing these guys any kind of justice, but you gotta pick up the EP, visit the site, and go see them. Before, you know, they come and kick your ass. we're almost ready!
